RANK

**Syntax:** **RANK( E, R, [O])**

*E* = Numeric value who rank you wish to determine

*R* = Range of cells containing data to rank

*O* = Order of rank as follows:

0 or omitted | Ascending |

Non-zero | Descending |

**RANK** returns the rank of a numeric argument *E* in the
range *R* based on order *O*. If *O* is non-zero, the rank is
equal to the position of the element if the list were
sorted in ascending order, but if *O* is zero or omitted,
the rank is equal to the position of the element if the
list were sorted in descending order. Blanks and text are
ignored. Duplicate numbers will have the same rank.

**Examples:**

A1..A8 = 5, 7, 5, 2, 8, 1, 9, 10

**RANK**(A1..A8, 7) = 4

**RANK**(A1..A8, 7, 1) = 5

**Excel function:** RANK
